My Hair Makeover

My blog's been suffering for the past few weeks due to the crazy amount I've had going but last weekend, my sister and my gorgeous nephew visited.  We had a great weekend and I'll be posting a about Things To Do in Devon very soon, as we had some fun checking out the local attractions.  Whilst they were visiting my sister very kindly gave my hair a makeover.

For the past few years I've stuck to having long dark locks and only getting it cut once a year, yes that's right ONCE! If you want long hair don't get it cut so much.  Another reason for this is I hate going to the hairdressers, don't get me wrong there are some great salons but they never quite get or listen to what I'm saying so as my sister is a trained hairdresser, she's like my personal stylist that just lives a fair few miles away and this is why I don't go anywhere else.

I fancied a change and instantly wanted to try something a bit lighter.  Due to the dark colours I've applied in recent years I was about worried it looking brassy or the worst case scenario orange!!  I also had my second cut this year, a few inches off and some layers blended in just gives it the bit of texture it's been lacking for quite some time.  I had a half head of highlights and sat for what felt like hours but the end result was amazing.  I couldn't believe how well it lifted on my dark hair and of course I trusted my sister to do a great job but I still worried about what tone I might achieve.

The condition of my hair was also a slight worry as I've always had very shiny hair but I was amazed at the result.  Although slightly drier as to be expected when going lighter, it still feels great and gives my hair lovely movement and texture.  My hair care has changed slightly and I'm using John Frieda Sheer Blonde Colour Renew, I'm using this together with John Frieda Sheer Blonde Everlasting products.  The colour renew products are a purple shampoo and conditioner to help reduce brassiness and any yellow tones.  It also keeps it bright and the everlasting range is a great conditioner to keep it soft and healthy looking.

Take a look at my before and after picture for my hair makeover.  I'm also wearing my new Specspost glasses which were a bargain at under £20 including postage.

The Perfect Fit

Now if you are anything like me, buying the correct size bra used to be guess work.  I mean I roughly knew what size I was but after weight fluctuation and comfort factors effecting my bra purchases, it meant finding time for a bra fitting was always something I would honestly get around to, hmm!  Now a recent survey shows there are many ladies out there like myself and one in four of us never get accurately measured.  Are you one of these ladies??

So how does correctly fitting lingerie make you feel?  Recent research carried out by the fashion brand Simply Be on 2000 women in the UK uncovered that 56% of us love wearing matching lingerie and 55% love having a perfectly fitting bra.  Having this in mind, is it because we love how it makes us feel, how it accentuates our curves or just because a correctly fitted bra is super comfortable?  Well for me the answer is all of the above.

Everything I just mentioned is all about body confidence, we've all had our off days but as many of you know if you are wearing something that makes you look and feel great, you radiate confidence.  Rachel MacLynn, Chartered Psychologist gives us some fabulous advice "The shape a bra gives you can have an impact on how feminine or sexy you feel – and in turn how confident - and it’s something that’s very easy to have control over."

Just 53% of us know how to correctly measure ourselves and this could mean many ladies have ill fitting and incorrectly sized bras.  Is this you?, if it is lingerie brand Simply Be could help with your lingerie choices, lingerie buyer Lollie Todd explains "At Simply Be we’ve always known there was a connection between great fitting lingerie and body confidence. We want to encourage all women to love their bodies and look after themselves.”

Many retailers offer free bra fitting and the internet offers many guides to measuring yourself for the perfect bra.  If you have been putting it off, just grab a tape measure or book yourself a free bra fitting and discover the world of beautiful lingerie and renewed body confidence.

Autumn/Winter 2014 Trends Lookbook

It feels a bit odd to be talking about next season already but alas summer is nearly over in the fashion industry and autumn/winter 2014 is starting to appear in stores.  London Fashion week showcased some key trends that will keep us going through the chilly months.  Some trends are making a comeback from previous seasons and others taking vintage inspirations.  There is always something for everyone and I've featured my five favourite trends for autumn/winter 2014 in a mini lookbook.  Take a look!

Oversized Knitwear

Knitwear is always a statement autumn/winter item as it keeps us cosy on those dreary winter days.  One of my favourite shows at London Fashion week was designer Sibling who showcased beautiful oversized knitwear with crochet knit inspirations.  The collection had a slight gothic feel to it and made it a mysterious and alluring twist on the knit classics.

Traditional Tartan

This traditional design conjures images of Scottish tartan kilts and rolling Highland mountains and the AW14 collections from designers such as Vivienne Westwood shows us just how classic and sophisticated your outerwear can be.  Gorgeous tartan prints and rich regal colours give us an on trend mix in our darker winter wardrobes.

                               Vivienne Westwood                                                 Debenhams

Statement Prints

Prints featured heavily on the AW14 catwalks in many different forms.  Favourites included geometric and 3D creations which gives texture to an outfit and creates eye catching looks.  Floral print which has been a bit hit for SS14 has been given a winter twist with dark tones and rich autumnal colourings.

The Sixties Shift

I love a cute shift dress and designers like Orla Kiely showcased gorgeous 60's inspired looks and quirky designs.  The high street will be buzzing with on trend examples and teaming this style dress with patterned or classic tights will take the trend into the winter months.

Awesome Orange

Deep oranges and dark tones are normally associated with autumnal colours but this season sees vibrant oranges really make AW14 create eye catching looks.  Christopher Raeburn featured lashings of this vivacious colour to really bring some life into traditional A/W trends and styles.

What are your favourite looks and trends for autumn/winter 2014?  September sees London Fashion Week back again for spring/summer 2015, I can't wait to bring updates from London for this fabulous week of fashion.

Fashion Feature – Rarisame

As a huge supporter of independent labels and intuitive fashion design, Elsie Delilah loves to showcase upcoming designers and beautiful fashion.  This fabulous fashion feature brings luxury inspirations and modern classy twists to the ever-changing fashion world.

This new designer hailed ‘a rising star in the world of fashion’ introduces a luxury, classic new fashion brand to the industry.  Fashion designer Ollia Alexandra Rarisame has shot into the spotlight with modern designs and intuitive tailoring which has recently seen the designer featured in Vogue China.

Ollia didn’t have your typical upbringing, some would say lavish and very fortunate but for the designer things weren’t always so easy, of russian and greek heritage and with a father in the spotlight it was difficult to have a real childhood and when Ollia came to London her love of fashion and determination thrived whilst involving herself in philanthropic projects including becoming a patron of the Serpentine Gallery.

Ollia has always had an eye for style and endeavours to showcase her talent to the UK.  The fashion label aptly named Rarisame features modern day styling with classic tailoring.  Ollia says 'When I was designing this collection, I wanted to present a concept of refined cuts and forms, something that will be so tailored, no matter what shape your body is, it would make it look even better, more proportional.  I made sure that every piece makes the best out of a female form, waist slimmer, and the silhouette longer, leaner. The fabrics I chose give a feeling of luxury without being ostentatious.  Finest leather, silk and wool. To add something edgy I used sapphires as embroidery and put a contrasted zip on each piece to spice the classics up, add fun and youth appeal'.

As this young designer gears up for the future fashion events including London, Paris and New York fashion weeks, I am very eager to see how this label develops and what exquisite designs Ollia will showcase.

OOTD - Summer Little Black Dress

I recently posted this outfit on Instagram and received some lovely comments so I thought I'd share my OOTD from a little lunch date on a sunny afternoon a couple of days ago.  It's such a simple outfit but sometimes that makes for the best looks.  The perfect little black dress is a must have for many ladies and I'm no exception.  Even on a hot sunny afternoon this simple jersey dress from H&M paired with my gladiator sandals looked pretty and not too overdressed.

My LBD's are normally for evening occasions but this simple dress was a slight shake up for the normal bright or pastel summer dress.  I love the way black makes you a look more tanned even if I do just have a slight summer glow.

Devon Dub Fest 2014

It feels like ages ago now but recently I went to Devon Dub Fest with my hubby and our Mk2 Golf Norman.  I took hundreds of photos and a short amount of film (wish I got some more) but I have merged it all into a short vlog/photo diary of our weekend at this great event.

I decided on a quirky little film style introduction and a collage of the best bits too.  It was a fabulous event and even if you're not crazy about cars there are some great designs, modifications and general festival fun pictures to take a look at.

This is my first proper vlog/photo diary so would love you to take a look and I'll hopefully be uploading more events and vlogs very soon (now I'm getting the hang of it!!)  I would also love if you could subscribe to my new Youtube channel Elsie Delilah

Iconemesis IndieGogo Campaign

I'm a big fan of creative design and buying something a little different or unique, even when that comes to phone cases.  Quirky design and illustration is always something that intrigues me as not being an artist myself, I wonder how some people are capable of such beautiful drawings and brilliant ideas.
Now having these funky designs on your Iphone case is the perfect way to carry around a little bit of art whether it be inspiring, quirky or fun and it shows off your personality in a fresh new way.

#supporticonemsis, iconemesis iphone cover, iphone cover

New brand Iconemesis has captured everything we love about design and is celebrating artists and designers in a brand new collaboration which brings fresh illustration and perfectly fashionable Iphone cases.  When I saw the designs available on Iconemesis, my eyes were instantly drawn to one of my favourite illustrators Gemma Correll and her cute, funny animal illustrations.  As a lover of dogs the pug Iphone cover was the perfect choice.

Iconemesis is currently undertaking a special campaign on Indiegogo which will help the brand develop and grow whilst bringing fresh, new talent on board to give us new amazing Iphone covers.  If you want to contribute to Iconemesis Indiegogo campaign, you can take a look at this amazing fashion brand at Support Iconemesis Indiegogo Campaign

Hair Extensions by Hairtrade

Now this feature may come as little strange due to the fact my hair is so super long and the need for hair extensions seems unnecessary.  I too had the same thoughts and having never tried hair extensions myself before, the thought of having false hair attached to my head seemed a little strange.  I know many of you will have tried extensions in one form or another but for me this was a totally new experience.

I love having longer hair and after ruining it many times with bleach, I've always tried to keep it healthy and shiny.  There is one thing I do wish for (which I'm very jealous of my sister) and that is thicker hair.  I have very fine hair and when given the chance to thicken it up, I used these luxury hair extensions from Hairtrade to add a small bit of length and some more volume to my flat locks.

As you can see from the before and after pictures, these lovely hair extensions gave healthy looking volume which looked natural and although they will probably take a little getting used to, they are perfect for an evening out or special occasion.

If you are a lover of hair extensions, Hairtrade do a spectacular range of colours and lengths and mine were 22in dark brown extensions which went perfectly with my hair colour.  The website also gives you a step by step video on how to put them in and look after your new locks.

Would love to know your experience with hair extensions and what brands you love best?

New Look Festival Haul

This weekend I'm off to Devon Dub Fest, it's a festival for volkswagen lovers paired with a great atmosphere, good music and lots of lovely stalls of clothing, jewellery pieces and for the boys lots of car bits.  I've been to this festival most years since it started and it's always a really good event and (touch wood) good weather.  It's looking to be a warm weekend with some showers but I thought I'd take the opportunity to get a few festival buys for the cooler evening events.

This weekend will also be my first attempt at vlogging and I've already started some filming as we've had to get our VW ready for the event.  Hopefully it'll go ok and I'm hoping my camera skills aren't too shaky but that will be ready and published next week so keep your eyes peeled.

So on to my festival haul.  I had seen a few things in the New Look sale and after seeing my sister's fabulous bandeau playsuit, I had to have a look and see if I could find something I loved.  Prints are a favourite of mine and this elephant print playsuit was perfect for a cool evening look.  Another cute item I had to have was the festival bowler, I thought it would go well with my dark hair and would be perfect to cover my frizzy hair as I will be minus a hairdryer!

Another perfect addition for summer and a huge trend for festival time is this gorgeous floral print kimono.  I've got a cute dress that will look perfect against the sheer material and I love the vibrant colours and lightweight material.  Most of my festival haul was in the New Look summer sale and was a total bargain and the gorgeous kimono was from the New Look Inspire range.  Check out my fab festival buys and I'll share some outfit posts next week and my new video.

OOTD - The Tropics & Shorty Dungarees

I haven't done an OOTD for a while and a few weeks ago I got some dungaree shorts which I have been eager to wear.  Today was lovely and sunny and they were the perfect outfit for all the things I had to do without getting too hot.

I have been looking for some of these dungarees for ages as most styles didn't fit me quite right and these were a bargain in the F&F summer sale at £8 so I couldn't resist.  Another favourite of mine this summer is all the lovely tropical print and my racer back top is from George another supermarket bargain.

Hope everyone is enjoying the fabulous sunshine we've been having.  Here is my OOTD:

Sun, Sea and The Simple Life

It's been a little quiet on the blog front recently and I thought I'd give a little update on what's been happening and how my blog has some small changes.  It's like anything in life, nothing ever stays the same and you have to ride the wave and develop as you go along.

I've been blogging for a whole year now and time has really flown by, in the past few months I've moved house to a lovely place about a minute from the beach and I've started my #Fit430 challenge.  Life is good and I'm feeling far healthier and happier than I have been in a while.  In 4 months I'm going to be hitting my 30th birthday and as I've been far less than healthy in the past few years I decided to challenge myself to get Fit for 30.  This challenge for me isn't about losing loads of weight but purely taking regular exercise, changing my portion sizes and how I'm eating. It's been so much easier than watching the weighing scales constantly.

So far, so good!  I've comfortably dropped a dress size on my bottom half and all the walking on the beach at 5am has definitely done wonders for my energy and motivation levels.  I'll be updating my progress on the blog over the next few months so if you want to keep posted just follow me on Twitter and my #fit430 for regular updates.

Now to my blog changes, most things are staying the same but I'm adding a little lifestyle inspiration into the mix and hopefully some events around the UK too.  I couldn't resist sharing the area I'm now living in as it's such a lovely place to so have a look at these snaps.  The last picture has been taken on my new Nokia Lumia 1020.  The camera is fabulous and perfect for bloggers as you can take it everywhere with you and it produces lots of great quality pictures, this phone also came with 64GB storage so has tons of space for your pictures.  My other photos I used my Canon EOS 600d another great camera that I absolutely love.

I also have a fashion webzine too and there are lots of industry updates at The Style Society so take a look at new designers, collections and lots of other fashion news.  Elsie Delilah also has a new blog header, I've had it for a few weeks now and decided it needed a small personal touch so would love to know what you think.

Next weekend I'm going to Devon Dub Fest and this time I may be vlogging about this festival.  It'll be my first proper vlog and it'll feature everything from getting our VW ready for the show to what I'm wearing and what's happening at the festival.  So keep your eyes out for that in the next few weeks.

So hope that's given a little insight into what's been happening over the past few weeks and there is lots to come.  Don't forget to enter my Big Beauty Giveaway and win loads of lovely goodies, it's perfect for you beauty bloggers out there to try some products and give us some great reviews.

Summer Fashion Footwear Buys

This summer I have added a few lovely pairs of shoes to my growing collection.  I will admit I am a creature of habit on most occasions going for pretty and practical but this time I went for shoes that were just gorgeous and totally perfect for summer parties.

The first pair was a purchase from Boohoo and were a bargain at £12.  I love wedges and as these had a crazy colour design, I had to have them.  The second pair is a fab floral platform sandal from Quiz Clothing and will look great with a little black dress for evening parties.

There are lots of summer sales around now making way for AW14 stock so make sure you get your summer essentials before the summer holidays are over.

Funky Flip Flops by Ipanema

Has everyone been enjoying this glorious sunshine?  I don’t know about you but summer is all about freeing your feet of stuffy shoes and boots and trying to find the perfect sandals or flip flops to see you through the summer.  As a beach lover, my staple footwear has to be my flip flops, I mean the ones which you can wear and not mind getting wet.  Although there are tons of these styles on the high street, sometimes they aren’t the most fashionable find for your summer wardrobe.

I love colours that mesh well with a variety of outfits and are also comfortable enough to wear all day especially when they get wet and sandy.  Ipanema Flip Flops do just that, I wore them at the beach this evening whilst walking the dog and they are so comfortable.  You get the practicality factor incase they get all sandy and wet but also they look cute and stay firmly on your feet without slipping off.

Ipanema footwear was created in beautiful Brazil and the designs are influenced by the vibrant nature of the country with colourful print and environmentally friendly materials.  They are probably one of the most 'green' fashion items you can buy.  Ipanema are also working with model Gisele Bundchen in promoting consideration for your natural environment and she also collaborated with Ipanema on her own range of beautiful sandals and flip flops.

My flip flops came with a fabulous summer beach bag in a funky monochrome design which just adds to the great quality you get from this label.  To complete the package, Ipanema flip flops are really affordable so make the perfect summer bargain!

OOTD - Life's a Beach

I haven't done a outfit post in a while and today my hubby got me some lovely casual pieces from Saltrock so decided to try out a casual beach look having spent most of the afternoon on the beach today.

Today has got to be one of the most relaxing days I have had in a while and the sunshine has made it that much better.  Although I'm not a footie fan, today is also the first game for England in the World Cup and I can hear lots of people in the local beer garden getting ready for the match.  I may have to pop open a cold one and take a look myself!

After last weekends blogger event, I always feel inspired to take a look at my blog and give my readers something a little different.  Saying that I am transforming it slightly over the coming weeks to form a life and style blog.  I love the simple things in life and I'm hoping to inspire with my little adventures and style posts, alongside my fashion webzine which will still focus on industry information, events and new exciting brands.

My blog turns 1 this month and I will be celebrating with a fabulous giveaway.  Keep your eyes peeled for that!  So here is my OOTD, all the clothing is from Saltrock and is perfect for the gorgeous weather we've been having!  I love the colours on the tee and the hoodie goes perfectly into the evening to keep you from getting chilly.

Must Have Holiday Accessories

It's that time of year again, it is really starting to feel like summer with all this warm sunshine we've been having.  Many of you will also be jetting off on your summer holidays, you lucky things!  Shopping for your summer essentials is always a fabulous way to treat yourself without spending a fortune before your adventure starts.

There are lots of perfect accessories to make your summer outfits really pop from jewellery, bags and lightweight scarves and each of these must have holiday accessories don't have to break the bank.  I love a good bargain and choosing accessories that are versatile enough for several wears, so a must have for my summer holidays is a gorgeous summer scarf.  I love being able to pop something over my shoulders on a summer evening without the need to buy a light jacket.  You could even buy a few colours or designs to go with several styles.

There are so many varieties and designs so choosing a funky print can really add some life to your outfit.  Floral and vintage styles are my favourite and look amazing with block colours as the print really stands out.  Another great use for a lightweight scarf dependent on the size, can be used as a mini sarong.  They are perfect to add a little something to your swimwear or a little cover up for ladies that worry about their thighs, myself included!

I've found some great prints at Seasons Online along with must have jewellery and accessories, great for your holiday essentials.  Take a look at my favourite designs and let me know your thoughts.

South West Blog Social

Yesterday I attended my third bloggers meet in Exeter.  The South West Blog Social was hosted by the lovely ladies Jodie from a la Jode and Albertine at Dippy Writes and was a chance to meet lots of other bloggers and catch up with some familiar faces.  The event took place in The Oddfellows in Exeter which was a great venue for the several talks, workshops and cocktail masterclasses that were on offer.

This event was packed with lots of advice on getting published, finding your unique voice and general SEO and media help.  There were lots of girly and pampering sessions to get stuck in to including Elk Salon doing hair up and spray in colour.  I had a touch of blue put through the ends of my hair, really wish I had gone for a hair up, the girls did some fabulous plaits which are my favourite!

Professional photographer Adi Tanase captured tons of shots throughout the whole day and I had some lovely pictures taken with fellow blogger Zoe at Zoe Georgina and I can't wait to see them.  Take a look at some of the pictures I captured on the day, it was a great event!

blogger event, south west blog social, fbloggers

Towards the end of the day a raffle was drawn with lovely prizes and all for a good cause and the ladies had also arranged amazing blogger goodie bags.  I love trying out new products and the goodie bags featured brands such as Yves Rocher, Clique Magazine, Quiz Clothing and vouchers for several brands including a mini goodie envelope from the Independents of Exeter.  One of the amazing products to try was a pretty necklace from Erin Cox Jewellers which was available for every blogger that attended.  Check out the lovely products below, I can't wait to try the gorgeous products.

These events always give great inspiration and motivation and it's a great opportunity to learn new things and meet new people.  Jodie and Albertine did a great job organising such a great event and I can't wait for the next one.

Must Have Jewellery Inspirations from Orelia

This is a brand I am really excited to tell you about. When I found this gorgeous jewellery I spent hours trying to chose my favourite pieces or a particular collection but alas everything is super cute and perfectly on trend so picking was going to be a difficult task.

This lovely jewellery brand named Orelia was born from a love of beautiful things, fabulous design and jewellery buying expertise.  Orelia has blossomed into an influential brand on the accessory scene with our beloved high street stores such as Topshop and John Lewis stocking the pretty pieces.

Collections include Tiki design inspirations, the gorgeous St Tropez collection, Colonial and Moroccan themes that sit perfectly alongside beautiful classic Orelia jewellery.  One of my favourite collections are the Tiki pieces, I love aztec style and the sharp geometric design.  The collection features vibrant colours matched with gold tones to give perfect statement jewellery to pair with an outfit.

Check out some of my favourite pieces below and see how dainty and beautiful each piece is, creating the ultimate accessory for any occasion.

This is a mixture of Orelia bracelets including the tiki beaded star bracelet and the ombre bracelet.  This selection features hints of Swarovski Elements and semi precious stones to create delicate, pretty additions to your outfit.

Another favourite of mine is this cute daisy pendant, it goes perfectly with spring/summer trends and is made with mother of pearl for a hint of vintage styling.

I was never one to have lots of jewellery (being a handbag and shoe girl) but it's hard not to keep buying pieces like this to add to my ever growing collection.  Orelia Jewellery has captured the essence in pretty, must have pieces and is one of my favourite jewellery brands.

Beautiful Crystal Bracelets by Karma Feeling

There is always something special about buying a personalised piece of jewellery, even choosing the colours or style just makes it that little bit different to the mass costume jewellery readily available on the high-street as it suits you and your personality.

When I found the lovely Karma Feeling's website, gazing through amazing crystal jewels made me want to experiment with a style of my own.  These are no ordinary beads, Karma Feeling use crystals known for their healing powers.  Crystals have been used for thousands of years in aid of a variety of ailments including general health conditions, sleeplessness, depression and anxiety.  Each crystal has different strengths and Karma Feeling use these healing properties to make special bracelets for individual needs.

Now honestly I don't know if crystals really aid in healing the soul and ailments of individuals but wearing beautiful jewellery that may help me pave a healthier and fuller life is definitely worth trying out.  Karma Feeling give a wonderful guide to each crystal and their properties which helps you choose perfect bracelet, just for you!

Take a look at the crystals I chose for my gorgeous bracelet and check out their meanings below:

healing crystals, ss14, bracelets, karma, healing powers

Clear Quartz -   Clear Quartz is one of the most powerful healing crystals there is and can be used for any ailment!  It also aids concentration and strengthens the immune system.

JetJet has been worn as a talisman for protection since the Stone Age.  It draws out negativity and removes any unreasonable fears that the wearer may have.  It guards against violence and illness and has been worn across the ages to protect the wearer from 'dark entities'.  It can help to stabilise finances, balances mood swings and alleviates depression.  Physically, it treats epilepsy, swollen glands, migraines and the common cold.

Pyrite Also known as Fool's Gold, Pyrite is brilliant for deflecting negative energy.  It's also said to deflect infectious diseases!  In business, it teaches you how to see hidden agendas, and how to deal with things diplomatically.  It is a great stone for people who suffer with self doubt and insecurity, although may be a little strong for people who already have a lot of confidence.  It may increase mental capabilities and will help stimulate energy where it's lacking.  It's excellent for people suffering from circulatory problems, along with asthmatics and those suffering from bronchial problems.

White Howlite Howlite is an incredibly calming stone and will help anyone suffering from insomnia, especially if it's caused by a busy mind!  It also helps you to become more patient and can help to control anger.  Howlite can also balance calcium levels within the body, helping to strengthen the bones and teeth.

Tigers Eye - Tiger's Eye was worn by Roman Soldiers when they went into battle.  It strengthens determination, focus and patience.  It's also a stone of good fortune and, like a tiger, the wearer will achieve their goals by pure determination and focus!  It will help anxious and nervous people to overcome their fears and find courage.  Tiger's Eye also has a strong power to draw money to the wearer.  It helps to heal broken bones, problems of the throat and the reproductive organs.

Hematite - A deflective stone, hematite works by stopping any negativity that is directed at you and sending it back.  It's alleged that it is a great stone to wear in a legal situation.  Psychologically, it supports timid people and boosts self esteem and confidence.  It will also work well for overeaters and smokers, or anyone who overindulges.  It has strong links with the blood and will be supportive to people suffering from anaemia and it can help with iron absorbtion.  It's another good stone for cleansing the blood and treats leg cramps, insomnia and anxiety.
