Devon Dub Fest Part 2

After catching up on some much needed sleep from a fantastic weekend, i've managed to get back to bringing you the highlights of the festival.

Devon Dub Fest enjoyed mostly sunny weather with a fabulous range of VW's including Campers (new and old), Caddy's, Golfs and many more makes and models.  The weekend consisted of a host of traders and mixed genre's of live music.  A great family affair which supported the CLIC Sargent charity.

Here are a few pictures of the event, i'm looking forward to next year already.

The gorgeous Bicton College was the perfect setting for the Show n Shine

Special Feature - Fresh Junky Clothing Co

This special feature comes from across the pond, from the fabulous USA.  Elsie Delilah emphasises the ongoing support for independent brands and believes everyone needs the choice in today’s market to stand out from the rest and embrace unique identity.

Fresh Junky is an international and established brand featuring unisex apparel based in Los Angeles.  The founder Rei Camacho gives us some insight to what makes Fresh Junky successful:

When was Fresh Junky created and what were your reasons for starting this brand?

Fresh Junky was created back in 1999.  I started the company once completing High School.  As a skateboarder and not being able to find a huge selection of skater comfort apparel, the gap in the market supported the idea of Fresh Junky.

How did you get the name Fresh Junky?

Myself and my friends would always throw the name "Fresh" around, just basically using it in almost every sentence, people today would say, "Cool, Awesome etc".  From that, we knew were addicted to the word, and applied that to our lifestyle, titling us, The Fresh Junky's.

What inspires your designs?

Our inspiration is drawn from Individuality, Simplicity and Urban Street Lifestyles.  Our apparel represents each of these elements giving our customers unique designs and comfortable clothing.

Where are you based and do you ship internationally?

FJ Clothing Co. aka Fresh Junky originated from New York City and is currently based out of Los Angeles, California USA and yes always welcome orders from around the world.

Make sure you check out their website and have a look at their fab designs all catered for fresh and unique individuals.

Fresh Junky can be found online at www.freshjunky.com and follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Inked Skincare

Everyone loves Summer but although the strong summer sun gives most of us a glowing tan, it is still very harmful to our skin if not treated with care.

I admit I was a sun-worshipper for many years but laying out in the scorching heat now doesn't appeal to me and since having ink it is important that I keep my tattoos out of the sun.  However, I have found a new product that can help delicate inked skin.

Forever Ink is a premium skincare range developed especially for tattooed skin.  They have developed a balm for new tattoos and a skin shield for protecting your tattoos in the long term.

Forever Ink Balm contains manuka honey which has natural antibacterial properties and vitamins B and E to nourish and heal your new tattoo.  The Forever Ink Shield is a light moisturiser that has special Ink Lock technology to keep your colour fresh and vibrant, with the added bonus of a SPF 45 to protect your ink from harmful rays.

You can get this great product online but it is also now stocked at Boots.  Inked guys and girlies should understand the importance of looking after something that is really a permanent investment on your body and this is the perfect product to look after that.

Special Feature - Unconnected Clothing

Unconnected Clothing

I love featuring new brands and supporting people who break the mould.  One such brand is Unconnected Clothing, with over one thousand followers on Twitter there are many people who agree that this brand is the big thing to watch in 2013.

Based in Yorkshire, this apparel is already breaking into the independent industry with quirky designs and unique appeal.   Unconnected Clothing’s ethos embraces great quality and brilliant design with owner Dan at the helm.  Dan has given us a little insight to the workings and ambitions for Unconnected:

Dan, what was the reason for starting the brand Unconnected?

The reason I started the brand was due to going to university and studying Product Design. I wasn't really finding my potential on particular elements of the course but parts of it aided my move and direction into apparel design. So having several discussions with family and friends we all came to the conclusion that I have a keen interest in the fashion world, spending a lot of my wages on clothing! So I spent a few weeks doing possible designs to see if there was any potential, and they received a great response which has led to Unconnected being as successful as it is today.

Love the Logo and the Name; is there a particular meaning to this or yourself?

The reason I named the brand Unconnected was simply by mistake. I was designing logos for several days and I always seemed to be putting a gap in the designs, so I thought the logos were being unconnected, and I loved the name! So re-designed the logo to this name. However after stumbling upon it I feel we have embraced it’s meaning and brought this into the brand. Trying to become different from the other independent brands that are out there.

You have great designs, what inspires them?

What inspires my designs... Well everything really. The environment we live in, everything around me really. I can be walking down the street see something, hear something etc and get an idea from it; my head is a little strange with designing new things!

Dan, there are a lot of brands out there now, why does Unconnected stand out?

Unconnected as a brand want to stand for quality and a great attitude towards the market we are in. We go so in depth when creating our products I sometimes think our suppliers and printer get a little bit annoyed with us, due to the extensive range of questions we ask. But I think this shows that we care as we are ensuring that everything is done correctly and to the standard we want it to be.

The Big Question: What do you hope for the future of Unconnected?

For the future we want Unconnected to be a big player in the fashion industry. My dream is to hopefully have a shop located in Leeds City Centre. We just want to be the best we can be.
Dream Big!

Check out some of the great designs which are available on the website, all at a fabulous price and more designs in the pipeline, there is a brilliant range to choose from.

I am sure Unconnected is going to be influencing the fashion scene in the coming months and years and its been great sharing this new and upcoming brand with you.  Big thanks to Dan at Unconnected for sharing his passion and everything can be found online at www.unconnectedclothing.co.uk and also on Twitter and Facebook.  Check out the links below:

The Dream Team

For ages now I've been searching for my perfect makeup combo.  I don't particularly have problem skin anymore but finding one that doesn't dry out or make you look greasy hasn't been an easy task.

I have tried so many from the cheap versions all the way up to the expensive and until now have not had any luck but after searching high and low I finally found the perfect combo.

My miracle makeup is:

- NYX Pore Filler - £12.50
- Maybelline Dream Smooth Primer - £8.99
- Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse - £7.69

Depending on your skin type or condition, there is no need to use all three at once but each product does wonders for smoothing out pores or problem skin and giving you a flawless look.

I tried the Maybelline Primer on recommendation from a well known magazine and fell in love with it instantly. It glides on and smooths out lines and pores perfectly.  The same goes for the mousse foundation, the two merge fabulously together and it comes in a great variety of skin tones.

The NYX Pore Filler is a relatively new brand for me (having never heard of it before) but was introduced by a friend and I love the pore filler.  It does come in a very small tube but it only requires a tiny application so lasts longer than you think.  It consists of a lightweight formula and is talc and oil free so is perfect under foundation.  Its a bit more expensive than the others but I definitely think its worth it!

I hope this helps give an insight into some great makeup options and I'd love others to share their perfect combos with me as love trying new things.  Please leave a comment if you have any great tips!
